| Arneson
Garden, located behind the Canby Fred Meyer store, is a
horticultural park offering picnicking, a woodland walking
trail, benches, and the opportunity to view a special Azalea
garden, all that remains of the Arneson Nursery that existed
prior to development. The Arneson's were world-renowned
hybridizers of azaleas, and a spring walk through the garden is
a glorious treat. The Gramor Development Company donated the
park to the City. Canby Community
Park, nestled next to the Molalla River off Berg Parkway,
offers a covered picnic area, barbecue pits, playground
equipment, a ball field, river access, and a fishing pond. The
park is undergoing wetland restoration through a grant from
Metro and a partnership with Canby School District, Americorps,
and local businesses such as Georgia Pacific. A wetland trail
from the fishing pond leads visitors into wooded areas
frequented by a variety of wildlife.
The Logging Road Tail runs from
SE Thirteenth Avenue north to the Willamette River. The historic
logging road has been converted into a walking and bike path.
Accesses are available from several neighborhoods along N
Redwood and N Pine, as well as from the parking lot along NE
Territorial Road and the Industrial Park along S Redwood.
Legacy
Park,
Canby’s newest part (formerly 13th Avenue Park) is
located adjacent to Ackerman Middle School on SE 13th
Ave., with a playground, two soccer fields (developed by Canby
KIDS) and off-street parking. The park has a tot playground
featuring a padded fall surface, and the beginning of trees and
landscaping. The development of the park is due in part to the
generosity of the MOM’s Club of Canby, the Burden Nursery and
Canby Kiwanis.
Locust Street Park located
halfway between SE 2nd and SE 4th Avenues on S Locust
Street, features two playground areas, restroom, basketball
court, benches, and a picnic area. This park is still quite new,
and the neighbors participated in its development. It is one of
Canby's most heavily used parks.
Maple Street Park is located
just north of NE 10th Avenue along Maple Street. Two ball fields
make this park the home of baseball and softball in Canby. Area
residents enjoy sitting in the bleachers to watch the leagues
play on summer evenings. Kids enjoy the two newly refurbished
playgrounds, and other users of the park play tennis or
handball, form impromptu basketball games, or utilize the
covered picnic area.
Beautiful Wait Park is home of
the gazebo, used as the hub for
concerts and community events. The Gazebo can also be rented for
weddings and such. The park also provides restrooms, two newly
refurbished playgrounds, and the atmosphere of a quaint town
square with mature trees and shrubs, and curved walking paths.
Event
reservations accepted.
