DISTRICT CONFIGURATION Canby School District unified in 1984 bringing Carus School, Ninety-One School District, Canby Elementary School District, and Canby Union High School District together for the first time. Although the District is geographically large (85 square miles), all schools work together with district administration to offer a comprehensive and complete menu of services and educational experiences touching all corners of the district. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS Five elementary schools operate within the District. In the southeast part of town is Cecile Trost Elementary School, which opened in the fall of 1993 for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. William Knight Elementary School and Howard Eccles Elementary School both reside in the northwest (downtown) area of Canby to serve kindergarten through fifth grade students. Some eight miles south of Canby is Ninety-One School, which serves grades kindergarten through eighth. Approximately seven miles to the east of Canby is Carus Elementary School, serving grades kindergarten through sixth. Each of the rural schools' upper grade students have the option to apply to attend Ackerman Middle School. Carus, Knight, and Ninety-one Schools scored "Strong" on the Oregon State Report Card in 2002. Beyond core instruction, elementary schools offer physical education, music, special education, and remedial reading programs. ACKERMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL Ackerman Middle School serves sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and features a comprehensive instructional program that has been recognized by the state of Oregon for its excellence. Students attend school on a trimester block schedule that allows teachers to work in teams with groups of students. Ninety-minute classes afford teachers and students adequate time to accomplish practical applications of the subject matter. Beyond its successful academic programs, students have excellent and numerous opportunities to participate in activities in sports beyond the traditional classroom. CANBY HIGH SCHOOL Canby High School is a comprehensive high school with 1,659 students in attendance.
