Helping to retain a special identity all its own, Canby is a community where
citizens have access to, and a voice in, the affairs of public service.
An elected mayor and council oversee city government through
an appointed city administrator. City Council meetings are open to the public
and broadcast live over the local television station, Our Community Television
Station Channel 5.
City residents oversee local electric and water service
through the Canby Utility. Power rates for all customers are well below those in
Portland and the surrounding communities.
Also indicating the self-contained environment is Canby Telephone
Association, an independent cooperative telephone company. Willamette Broadband
provides quality cable television programming, high-speed broadband technology
and commercial television advertising to local and outlying areas.
Canby Police Department applies a strong community-oriented
philosophy in providing police services and strives for a high level of
cooperation between the Department and citizens. The Police Department offers a
broad base of proactive programs, including neighborhood watch, bicycle safety
and crime prevention.

Canby Fire District #62 serves 32,000 citizens in a 52 square mile area. The
district has 10 career paramedic/firefighters, 4 Chief Officers, 2 office staff
and 35 volunteer firefighter/EMT's.
Fire District's services include Advanced Life support Ambulance staffed with
3 paramedics, 24 hours a day, full firefighting capabilities, first aid/CPR
classes, blood pressure checks, Community Emergency Response Team training
(Cert), and courtesy home fire inspections for the public.
The Canby Fire District provides Fire & Safety Education in several
areas; Disaster Preparedness, Adult Foster Care Fire Safety training,
Babysitting, Residential Sprinkler System, and Wild Fire Defense.
